day 17 - las vegas, nv to mariposa, ca

There was really not too much to write home about today. We decided that we were pretty much tired of seeing desert, and since Death Valley was almost wholly desert, that we would skip it and do the long drive up to Yosemite instead.

Our route took us along the northern border of the Mojave Desert, home of the funny-looking joshua tree:

At lunch, we stopped somewhere on the road and had some noodles at a Chinese restaurant. We were tired of eating nothing but Mexican and American food.

Weirdly named street:

Then we stopped by the city of Bakersfield, home to the Dewar's chew, a yummy candy that a friend had introduced us to a while ago. We got a banana split and a pound of chews.

We got to the town of Mariposa, which was around 40 miles from Yosemite, and stayed in Mariposa Lodge for the night.
