day 7 - nashville, tn to dallas, tx

So originally we were planning on making it to Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas by the end of the evening. After searching vainly in Arkansas for something to do, however, we decided to just skip the state and go to Dallas instead, and spend the whole next day and night in Dallas. So nothing much happened on this day, as we were mostly on the road.

Spotted on the road: someone moving a house.

We did stop by Memphis on the way and have some barbeque at the Pig on Beale. Beale Street itself is a colorful strip of blues and barbecue joints. It had the feel of faded glory when we were there, though, possibly because there were few tourists on the street.

The Pig on Beale was great - one of the tastiest pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had.

Afterwards, we left to go to Arkansas.

Arkansas seems to be a state deeply rooted in two things: nature and Bill Clinton. After picking up a ton of Arkansas brochures in the visitors' center, we found that about 95% of the content had to do with fishing, hiking, camping, and canoeing/kayaking. The other 5% had to do with various historical museums, and frankly we were getting tired of museums. Furthermore, all the springs in Hot Springs have big hotels and bathhouses built on top of them, and they charge you to bathe in them, which is somewhat lame (we had been picturing a lovely, natural, bubbling spring in the middle of the woods).

We did stop in Little Rock to get an early dinner though. In the Oppenheimer Market Hall, a mall-like building comprised entirely of food vendors, I managed to find bubble tea, which I had been craving for a week now.

The other main attraction in Little Rock is the Clinton Presidental Center and Library, which we didn't end up going to, but which is essentially a museum dedicated to the Clintons and has a full-scale replica of the Oval Office.

By the way, during the trip from Little Rock to Dallas, we hit our 2000th mile!

Finally, late at night, around 10pm, we arrived in Dallas. We set up in a local hotel and got some rest.
